Annacotty is a suburban village on the outskirts of Limerick, 7 km (4.3 mi) from Limerick City Centre. It is situated where the old N7 main road between Limerick and Dublin crosses the Mulkear River, 1 km (0.62 mi) upstream of where it flows into the River Shannon.
About Annacotty:
The village has a rich history associated with the river, where grain mills were once positioned to harness water power. The village also had a strong co-operative movement with the setting up of the Annacotty Co-Operative Society in the 1890s.
Butter was made in the village until the 1960s. As Limerick city and the suburb of Castletroy have expanded, Annacotty has become a popular settlement and has seen much development in terms of housing and industry in the past number of years, due in part to its good infrastructural links and connectivity to the University of Limerick and associated national technological park.
There is a good variety of pubs and restaurants in Annacotty.
Nearby attractions include the Castletroy neighbourhood park, Castletroy Golf Club, fishing on the Mulkear River, UL’s multi purpose Sports Arena, city attractions including King John’s Castle, the Hunt Museum and attractions in Lough Derg including The Spirit of Killaloe – accompanied sightseeing river boat tours and University of Limerick activity centre in Killaloe.
